The Jade Roller is yet another beauty tool taking the world by storm. These tools are being used by beauty gurus, skincare experts and makeup enthusiasts alike, and are available almost everywhere! So what is the big fuss about?

If you have seen jade rollers everywhere, but you do not know how to use one, or what the benefits are, then you are in the right place. In this guide, we will go through why you need this skincare saviour, and what results you can expect after using one the right way!

What is a Jade roller?

The Jade roller is a beauty and skincare tool that has been used for centuries. This skincare device was first used by high society members and Chinese royalty in the 17th century. As the name suggests, these rollers are made from solid jade stones, and are typically used for the larger parts of the face such as the neck, cheeks, forehead and jaw.

The jade roller tends to come with a large jade stone at the top for the larger parts of the face, and a smaller stone at the bottom for the more delicate and hard to reach parts of the face such as the eyes and mouth.

Now, you may be thinking: what on earth could a stone do for my skin? Or maybe, you do not believe in the healing power of crystals, but let us tell you…Chinese medicine has been utilizing the jade stone for centuries. Jade is known for its purifying properties and ability to heal skin and restore health.

The purpose of using the stone, and rolling it across your face is so that the face can be massaged and the lymph nodes drained. This is so that you do not have a puffed up, blotchy face in the morning!

The jade roller is now available everywhere and is often sold with a Gua Sha another popular Chinese beauty tool used for anti-ageing and skincare.

Benefits of a Jade roller:

As previously mentioned, the jade roller has a range of benefits. The action of pressing down and rolling the stone across the face works to gently massage the skin, which helps increase circulation, creating plump, firm, glowing and younger looking skin.

In addition, the motion of the jade roller going across the face also helps drain the lymphatic nodes in the face and neck. This stimulates the lymph nodes to drain fluids and unhealthy toxins from the face, which will help reduce puffiness, and make the face seem more youthful.

The overall effect of using a jade roller helps to decrease puffiness in the skin, minimize fine lines, and blemishes. When used in conjunction with your daily serums and moisturizers, the jade roller can work to deeply penetrate the serum into the skin and nourish the face.

In using a jade roller every day, you are effectively massaging the face, increasing the blood flow and circulation in the face, allowing for fresher, glowing and younger looking skin.

Things to remember before using a Jade Roller:

If you want to reap the rewards of a jade roller, then you will need to be aware of the best ways to use your jade roller. First things first, you should never use a dirty jade roller on the skin. You should always make sure that your jade roller is clean and hygienic before it touches your skin as you may be transferring dirt and bacteria from the surface onto your face, which will cause breakouts and blemishes.

In addition, you should always use a jade roller on fresh, clean skin. This will help you massage your products into the skin and keep it looking healthier. If you use a jade roller with makeup on, or with grime and dirt on your face, you will be rubbing the grime deeper into the skin, which can also cause acne or breakouts.

It is best to start with a freshly washed face, as part of your morning routine. This will help drain fluids and toxins from the face after sleeping, and reduce puffiness, ready for a fresh, rejuvenated look to start the day.

You can also use a jade roller at night as part of your nighttime skincare routine. Just remember to use it after you have washed your face, and after you apply your serums.

How to use a Jade Roller: the right way!

Let’s rock and roll! To start using your jade roller, you should be aware of the proper way to massage the face with this tool. You should always roll from the center of your face outwards, towards your neck and ears.

The best way to do a facial massage is to start at the chest, and roll with a light pressure upwards and outwards. Make sure that you roll over the same patch of skin two or three times to get your blood circulating. However, never roll backwards, always just pick up the roller and roll upwards and outwards from the starting point.

To use the jade roller, start with the chest and move upwards towards the face. First, roll on your chest, and make your way towards the neck and jawline. Split the face in half, and do one side at a time. Roll upwards and outwards, and work the jade roller up the chin, towards the cheeks, nose and outwards towards the ears. This will help drain fluids through the lymphatic system, when done in this motion.

Once you have used the large part of the roller on your cheeks, chin and face, you can use the smaller jade stone for under the eyes and on the eyelids. Just remember this is a very fragile and delicate part of the face, and should be treated gently and with care.

Use the small end of the roller and gently move from the inner corner of the eye, and roll softly to the temple. Then, using the larger stone again, roll outwards across your eyebrows and leave the roller to brush against the brow bone and follow the natural contour of your bone structure.

Then, move onto the forehead, rolling from the middle, and working your way outwards. Once you have done the forehead, switch to the other side of the face and start from the beginning, working upwards from chin to cheek, to forehead. The last part of the massage is to smoothen and roll upwards from the eyebrows to the hairline.

The whole massage should only take about 5 minutes a day, and can be very relaxing. Your skin can flush a little, or become very red at first, but do not worry, this is a good sign. This shows that your blood is pumping, circulating, and you have successfully massaged and plumped the face.

Finally, do not forget to clean the jade roller after using it. If it is going to be used on your face every day, then you have to ensure that it is cleansed and hygienic after every use! The best way to do this is to clean the jade roller thoroughly with warm, soapy water after you are done. Then dry it off and pack it away in a safe place ready for your skin routine tomorrow!
